Ogmore Vale Fire Station
Ogmore Vale Fire and Rescue Station became the first Fire Station in the UK to achieve the Green Flag Community Award last year in recognition of its high environmental standards, cleanliness, safety and community involvement.
Station Commander for Ogmore Vale, Mathew Bradford, said:
“At the beginning of February, with the support of Keep Wales Tidy (Orchard Pack) and Ogmore Valley Priide, close to 20 rare Welsh fruit trees and blossoms; over 150 native wildflower bulbs have been planted at Ogmore Vale Fire Station Community Garden. Additional seating benches have been added for the community to enjoy the garden as it blooms through the coming months”.
“To support our sustainability and biodiversity strategy, we have been able to reuse all compostable cardboard, paper and waste wood within the garden to support insect, bug and wild bee habitat. We are enormously proud of the fact that we have been able to have planted a number extremely rare Welsh fruit trees within the Ogmore Valley and promote their growth within South Wales. We have re-applied for our Green Flag Award again this year, with the aim of again being the only Fire Station in the UK to achieve this”.
