Barry Firefighters take on the Three Peaks Wales Challenge
A group of firefighters from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and their local emergency service colleagues are taking on the Three Peaks Wales Challenge.
In just 15 hours or less, the group are aiming to climb Snowdon in the North, Cadair Idris in mid-Wales and Pen-y-Fan in the South. The crew will be setting off on the 15th September alongside paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust and members from Barry Local Authority and the Barry Coastguard.
The group known as ‘The Peaky Climbers’ will be raising money for their three chosen charities; The Firefighters Charity, TASC – The Ambulance Staff Charity and Mind in the Vale of Glamorgan. The Fire Fighters Charity and TASC both provide vital support and treatment for their respective Services for staff who sustain physical injuries and mental health issues in the line of work. Mind in the Vale of Glamorgan are a charity based in Barry and are affiliated with Mind but are dedicated to helping people on a more local level. All members of the team have loved ones and colleagues who have been impacted by mental health issues in their lifetime. The charity cares for, supports and provides treatment and guidance for those suffering.
The team have recently conquered the National Three Peaks Challenge within 24 hours and an exercise bike challenge held at Asda in Barry and have raised over £4,000 so far. With this latest challenge, they’re aiming to raise over £6,000.
Barry Crew Manager Mark Potter from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “We are proud to be taking on another challenge to fundraise for our three chosen charities, as all three causes are very close to our hearts as they provide essential treatment, care and support to both emergency services and our communities.
