Essential drowning prevention messages delivered to young people in South Wales
In partnership with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), our Community Safety Team have been working to deliver lifesaving water safety and drowning prevention messaging to young people in South Wales.
At South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS), we want everyone to enjoy the water safely. However, we recognise that some children in South Wales do not receive essential and potentially lifesaving advice around being safe in water.
To combat this, we have been working with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) to train members of staff to deliver an informative ‘Crucial Crew’ package around drowning prevention.
Today (Wednesday 26 April), marks our first ever drowning prevention Crucial Crew event delivered by SWFRS, which took place at Barry Emergency Services Station. All school transition year 6/7 children in South Wales will now all have the opportunity to be educated on drowning prevention.
Watch Manager Dave Vaughan led the session and said:
“These sessions are a great opportunity to share essential water safety messages and help educate and inform young people across South Wales.
“We hope to continue working with our partners to deliver these sessions and keep our communities safe.”
