Firefighters continue to tackle large fire involving 200 tonnes of metal in Penallta

At approximately 3:13pm on Wednesday the 1st of September 2021, we received reports of a commercial fire near Penallta Industrial Estate on North Road in Hengoed.

Multiple crews from various Stations in the South Wales area attended the scene and were faced with a large well-developed fire involving approximately 200 tonnes of metal. Approximately 50 Fire Service personnel have attended the scene of the incident.

Firefighters alongside partner agencies, worked together using a range of specialist equipment and techniques to extinguish the fire, including water jets and bowsers, aerial ladder platforms and breathing apparatus.

Local residents are asked to keep windows and doors closed at this time due to the accumulation of smoke in the area as a safety precaution.

The incident is currently ongoing and crews remain at the scene to ensure the premises and the surrounding areas are made safe.
