Hoax Calls Costs Lives
At 14:41 on Wednesday 9th May, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a person jumping into the River Usk near Friars Walk, Newport.
Specialist boat and rescue crews from Maindee, Malpas and Duffryn were mobilised and arrived on scene within six minutes, however there was no sign of a casualty in the water.
At 15.21 Control staff received the stop message that crews had been stood down and that this incident was a hoax call.
The Service would like to remind the public that making hoax and malicious calls is a criminal offence and endanger lives of those who are really in potentially life-threatening incidents.
