South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Six Nations Safety Guidance
The Guinness Six Nations has returned in full swing for 2022 with fans and supporters once again allowed to cheer for their favourite teams in stadiums.
We at South Wales Fire and Rescue Service hope that everyone enjoys this year’s Six Nations Championship safely, so we’ve put together a safety guide for you to follow to if you’re lucky enough to go to a game this year, or celebrating out with friends.
We know that people enjoy a few drinks whilst cheering on their team, but we urge you to drink responsibly and remember the following safety advice;
[Footage recorded January 2020.]
DON’T drink and drive
Don’t risk being one of the 100,000 drink or drug drivers caught each year. You could face a minimum 12 month ban, a large fine, a criminal record or even imprisonment.
DON’T attempt to cook if you’ve had a drink
Remember – fire starts when your attention stops!
Unattended cooking is one of the biggest causes of domestic fires in South Wales and can lead to tragic consequences. If you’ve been drinking, don’t attempt to cook. If you fancy something when you get home, then it’s best to prepare cold food or order a takeaway.

STAY safe around water
You should never go in the water after drinking. Alcohol is a contributing factor in many water related incidents as it seriously impairs your judgement, reactions and ability to swim.

RESPECT emergency service workers
More than 1,360 assaults were committed in the six-month period from 01 January 2021 – 30 June 2021. They included kicking, slapping, head-butting and verbal abuse, and ranged from common assault to serious premediated attacks involving grievous bodily harm and at least 21 incidents involved a weapon.
If you’re out enjoying the rugby, please respect and protect our emergency workers.
FOLLOW Welsh Government, Public Health Wales and Six Nations Rugby Guidance
Although supporters can return to the stadium, there are still restrictions in place to keep everyone safe.
