South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Supports Register My Appliance Week 2021

As we return to the new normal, during Register My Appliance Week South Wales Fire and Rescue Service is reminding households to look around their homes and register the more than 100 million older appliances that helped sustain and often entertain them through lockdown.

Recent government research has revealed that 49% of people never registered their products, and domestic appliances used in essential tasks such as cooking and refrigerating food, washing laundry and dishes and vacuuming totalled over 210 million.

As part of the Fire Kills Campaign, SWFRS is encouraging people to make their homes safer by registering machines at Register My Appliance to ensure all their home appliances – particularly older, previously forgotten ones – can be located if a safety repair is ever required.

Nearly 60 leading brands are represented on the portal, developed by the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances (AMDEA), with most makes welcoming details of products up to 12 years old.

Head of Risk Reduction for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Jason Evans said: “Despite restrictions relaxing, we are still spending a great deal of time in our homes and our kitchens. This campaign is a great opportunity to remind people of the importance of registering all of their indispensable appliances – particularly the older ones – that served our families during lockdown. We should never take the safety of our homes for granted. It is vital that appliances are installed and used according to the instructions. You can find advice on safe usage across our channels and at Register My Appliance.”
