South Wales Fire and Rescue Service to undertake large-scale training exercise in Aqua Park Cardiff

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) will be undertaking a large-scale training exercise in Cardiff Bay’s Aqua Park Cardiff on Thursday 8 June 2023.

Emergency service colleagues and partners are also taking part in the exercise, including staff from Aqua Park Cardiff and Welsh Ambulance Services Trust (WAST).

The purpose of the exercise is to replicate various emergency scenarios to test the operational response, treatment and rescue of casualties from a body of water. The exercise will also create an opportunity to conduct essential first aid training.

A large number of volunteers will also be participating, acting as casualties to add a sense of realism and urgency to the scenarios.

Station Manager, Lauren Jones, said:

“Operational training events such as this allow our crews to train in a realistic, yet challenging, environment to ensure operational competency is maintained.

“This exercise also involves an element of joint working with WAST colleagues and the learning we take from such events will further develop our skills, response and working relationships.”

The exercise will start at approximately 10:30am and is expected to run until 1pm.

Nearby residents are urged not to be alarmed by the increased emergency service presence, such as personnel, vehicles and emergency response resources.

In an emergency involving bodies of water, ring 999 and ask for the Fire and Rescue Service if inland or the Coastguard if at the coast.
