Storm Jorge – Critical Incident
**On Saturday 29th February, a critical incident was declared and then later stood down, when the situation improved.**
Following flooding and severe weather related incidents which have occurred overnight and through the course of the morning, a critical incident has been declared and South Wales Police are coordinating a multi-agency response.
Emergency service activities have centred around the Pontypridd and Ely area of Cardiff. At its peak Ely Bridge on Cowbridge Road was closed for around 2 hours.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has taken a total of 72 calls between 6pm last night and 6am this morning.
The public can be reassured that everything is being done to ensure their safety and emergency services are coping with the pressure placed upon them.

The emergency services, jointly with local authority planning departments, local health boards, and organisations such as Natural Resources Wales and utility companies, are working continuously to ensure the safety and welfare of those affected, minimise damage to infrastructure and property, and minimise disruption.
