UKRO Preparations are underway
Teams from across South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) are busy training in preparation to take part in the Festival of Rescue 2021.
Delivered by the United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO), a national charity championing the highest standard of skill and learning for fire and rescue personnel across the UK, and organised by hosts Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, the much acclaimed contest takes place Sept 16-19 in Newcastle, on the banks of the iconic River Tyne.
Six SWFRS teams will travel to the three day contest, including Porthcawl Extrication Team, the Dragons Extrication Team and current world champion title holders Bridgend Extrication Team. They will take part alongside a specialist SWFRS Water Rescue Team, Trauma Team and Rope Rescue Team.
The Festival of Rescue 2021 will see firefighting teams from across the UK take part in a series of workshops and learning opportunities, as well as competing in complex rescue scenarios to take a range of coveted titles.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service have a proud history of participating in the event and hosted UKRO- In to the Dragon’s Lair back in 2018.
Group Manager Shaun Moody BEM, an Ambassador for UKRO and a former world title holder with the Bridgend Extrication Team said: “As a Service we are thrilled to have the opportunity to once again take part in this fantastic event.
We are looking forward to the many challenges UKRO provides as well as participating in the exceptional learning opportunities and workshops which will take place in this great location. The skills acquired by our competing firefighters are always brought back and shared with colleagues across the Service, which ultimately benefits the people we serve across South Wales”
