Lula and the Flame project aimed to prevent wildfires in South Wales

In 2024, Petra Publishing teamed up with six local primary schools in South Wales, Cwmclydach, Lwynypia, Maerdy, Parc, Penyrenglyn, and Penrhys to create the educational book writing project, Lula and the Flame.

Following on from the book, Community Storywork produced an animated film, a ‘talking book’, and a documentary highlighting the project’s development.

The documentary features interviews with pupils, parents, carers, and staff, offering a glimpse into the creative process behind the project.

The heart of the story is a message about collaboration with Lula and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, focusing on efforts to prevent wildfires across South Wales. Through this project, local communities have come together to raise awareness and promote fire safety.

As part of our extensive education programme running in schools throughout South Wales, the Arson Reduction team in SWFRS has created a lesson plan based on Lula and the Flame, to engage students in fire safety education.
